| K0ZK | 46 | 79 | 17250 | I operated from Parsons Beach, Kennebunk, Maine. Weather report was for rain, cold, and lightning. I opted not to set up in my new favorite location on the bridle path North of Parsons Beach due to the call for wet weather. I drove to Parsons Beach and set up a Hustler 6BTV Vertical to a guardrail post. I have invented a universal mount to affix vertical antennas to a variety of stout posts, trees. or even fire hydrants. I used three radials cut for 20 metres laying on the rocks a few inches from the salt water. I was about 100 yards from the Atlantic Ocean, in the middle of a salt water marsh. The rig was an Elecraft K3 ser. no. 0387 at 5 Watts, an R.A. Kent paddle, paper log, El cheepo headphones. military VSWR Meter, and old Dentron antenna tuner. I worked mostly 20, but made a few contacts on 40, 15, and 10. I worked CA, ID, UT, OR, WA, NE, and HA7 (Hungary) on 20 metres. The weather never lived up to the dire predictions of the TV weather bozos and I had an enjoyable afternoon. A nearby fisherman turned out to be a coffee salesman and gave me two pounds of fine French roast to try out in my espresso pot. YUM.
| KX0R/BB | 49 | 48 | 14259 | Humid, potentially stormy weather caused me to change plans and avoid the high mountains. Instead I hiked 2 miles to a wonderful site in a meadow on a mesa, covered with meadows and large ponderosa pine trees, at about 6100 feet elevation.
| N4BP | 38 | 50 | 10032 | Got shut down several times due to strong thunderstorms. 20M band very noisy for the duration. Had several busted QSOs due to noise and QSB. W1PID who usually pounds into SFL was lost in the noise. Skip remained fairly short for the four hours except for HA7UG and N7OU (OR).
| N9NE | 42 | 28 | 8820 | Setup was K2 powered by a 7.5 AH battery. Antenna was to have been my 88’ doublet, but when I got ready Sunday morning, I realized that I had taken my 44’ doublet instead. No problem!
| W4ZV | 40 | 27 | 8040 | I love this event! It\'s just long enough to be interesting and yet not boring. Rig here was a K2 to a Par EF-20/40 plus an Emtech ZM-2 to resonate the wire on 15m. Antenna was installed in a tree above a picnic table at Morrow Mountain State Park (NC) which is several hundred feet above the surrounding terrain.
| K4BAI | 31 | 41 | 6696 | Only signals heard were on 20 and 40. 13 QSOs on 40 and 59 on 20. Bands generally sounded weak here. Missed the first 49 minutes due to lunch with the family. Thanks for all QSOs.
| N7OU/BB | 34 | 30 | 6528 | I hiked a couple of miles to my operating site on Oregon\'s Tillamook Bay. This year I used a vertical dipole fed with open-wire line and my trusty K2. I remembered to use sunscreen but still managed to get burned on my ankles where my pants had hitched up.
| N3XRV | 33 | 19 | 5148 | Second year for FOBB and first log submission. One of these days I hope to have time to take it to the field.
| K7TQ | 29 | 30 | 5133 | I got rained out for my trip to the mountains, so I stayed at home to give you brave bees out in the field someone else to work.
| N6GA/BB | 33 | 17 | 4950 | Murphy struck hard and early: I got to my favorite mountain QTH with plenty of time to set up, only to discover the rubber bands in my antenna launcher / wrist rocket had gone south. Took two and a half hours to set up one dipole. Trees were too close to hold up 44 footer so I had to cut it down to a 20 M dipole. One tree now sports four fishing sinkers. Heel of hiking shoe dissociated itself from rest of shoe. Forgot BNC/UHF connector adapter. Forgot ladder line / BNC adapter. Highlights in no particular order: Plenty of Bees to work, some even ventured up to 15 Meters. 80 degrees F at 7000\' elevation, nice breeze. Remembered to take food, radios, sunscreen. Adapted, overcame, enjoyed!
| K9JWV | 30 | 23 | 4770 | Awesum day for being out and operating the FOBB in s/w Utah! Temp got up to 102 (better than 110 degrees earlier in the week!) but the wind was steady and kept it tolerable. Operated from a park about 5 miles from St. George, Utah. Heard WC7S but he didn\'t hear me but did work my other QRP friends, KI6MWN, Stu and NG7Z, Paul. Most QSOs were with mid-westerners and the left coast - worked one FL, one NC and one WI but no 1s, 2s or 3s. Had limited success on 40 (6 QSOs) and 15 (7 QSOs) with the rest on the usual workhorse band, 20!
| K9ESE | 27 | 30 | 4617 | Thank you for hosting this event.
| K6XM/BB | 32 | 14 | 4416 | This was my first attempt at BB. Amazingly, I had everything that I needed, and Murphy didn\'t find me. Thanks for a fun time! I\'m already planning for next year.
| AC7A/BB | 32 | 12 | 4224 | found my FOBB spot on the north side of Mount Bigelow (about 8000 ft), in the Santa Catalina Mountains, just north of Tucson. The weather was much more suitable in the mountains being in the low 80\'s versus 105+ in the valley below. I used my K1 and a nearly vertical 40m dipole, on 20 and 15m. N7OU, K9JWV, K7TQ and K6DGW were all strong throughout the FOBB.
| AA1MY/BB | 27 | 19 | 3726 | Rig: ATS-II > Z-MATCH > 88\' doublet at 50\'. Lightning & rain dictated a drive-in to a site this year. First time putting up an Eighty-Eight in the rain, causing a late start. Operated from the passenger seat of my old wagon with the 450 ohm lead pinched in the window and the gear on a board in my lap.
| VE3OBU | 23 | 17 | 2760 | My first FOBB. Lots of fun. My 40M antenna came down in a freak storm some days ago so no Qs there. Only 20M. Was hoping to work BB but severe thunder storms and heavy rain put an end to it.
| NA0L | 27 | 7 | 2754 | Operated from the Betasso Preserve above Boulder, Colorado, at 6500 feet elevation. All on 20M. Beautiful day with only a little rain and lightning.
| WA0RSE/BB | 23 | 15 | 2622 | Another fun afternoon! Went to the local high field this time, up on a hill, with horizon access to the south and west. Set up the Buddipole as a Horizontal Dipole for 20m up 15ft. The Elecraft K1 did a great job again this year and having full coverage headphones was really great. Had a nice bottle of Sioux City Cream Soda in the hot sun and windy conditions. (Next time I'll bring some snacks!) I wish people would spread out even more than they were this year. So much congestion right around the calling frequency. +/- 10 (14.050 to 14.070) would not be too much. We bees are weak, especially when we're in the plains (vs. the mountains!) Highlight was working Steve, the goat man, WG0AT! I've followed his YouTube adventures for quite a while. operated from EN34kv
| WD9F | 23 | 12 | 2415 | Beautiful day in Central Illinois. On call at work so I walked out the front door and around the house to my back deck :-)
| KF0UR | 22 | 14 | 2376 | Had a great time as usual. The WX and band condx weren\'t as good as last year, but I still enjoyed the event. Because of the wx, I chose a location close to home, on Mt. Blodgett in Colorado Springs at 8000 ft
| NW8L | 23 | 11 | 2346 | SFI = 68, SS = 0, K=1, sounds familiar, right? Did a little better than last year with 34 contacts total, all on 20 meters. Operated from just below South Sandia Peak at 9600 feet using KX1 and dipole.
| K9DXA/BB | 20 | 14 | 2040 | Operated at Elburn Forest Preserve near Elburn, IL. Thanks to all for a nice afternoon. Some QSB. Great weather. Used a K1 to a long wire.
| WA5RML | 22 | 5 | 1782 | Great fun! I love these outdoor events!
| AA5CK | 21 | 7 | 1764 | Kayaked into the Washita Natl Wildlife Refuge at the upper end of Foss Lake in Western Okla. Spent some time in the water to stay cool. Great event, as always!
| K9EW | 20 | 9 | 1740 | It was a great day to be a Bee. I was using my Sierra running 2w into a 44-foot doublet configured as an inverted vee, and a BLT. Nice to hear some old friends on again thanks to improved (but not great) propagation.
| K6DGW/BB | 16 | 15 | 1488 | K2 [#4398]+Buddipole 20m only. Solar charged 12Ah SLA battery. I again went to the Overlook Park in Auburn about 1,000' above the American River. Temp was 105 but I was in the shade and a nice breeze always seems to come up the canyon. All the gear worked just fine, I opted to use the BP OCF horizontal dipole configuration this time instead of the vertical with radials. Managed to keep a steady rate of about 10/hr until the last half hour when it tanked to zero. I decided to pack up with about 15 min remaining. Worked Wayne, N6KR, of Elecraft fame, and Kevin, KD5ONS who runs the Elecraft CW net on Sun afternoon. One guy insisted on giving me his name instead of a power or number, and I think a couple of the numbers were really contact serial numbers rather than Bee numbers. They're not on the roster so I counted them as non-bees.
| W4RK | 17 | 9 | 1326 | Great event! Could have used some sunspots as 20 meters was pretty crowded.
| N3AO | 14 | 15 | 1218 | Rain, Rain, and more rain here in southwestern Virginia. I delayed my hike until it was almost start time. Had to quickly throw up my temporary 20/40 meter inverted vee antenna, and discard the idea of using the two antennas I had made expressly just for FOBB, a Tuned Doublet and a 40-foot vertical, with 4 ground radials, made of bead-wire. A fair amount of work and testing had gone into those two antlers, but the contest is more than antennas, I decided. I got chased up onto the front porch, and almost chased inside by one rain cell after another. Still, I was able to make 29 QSOs, 14 of which were with fellow Bumblebees. I used my Elecraft K1 at 5 watts; oh, how I still love that little rig! And thanks to all who heard me. I made only 3 QSOs on 20 meters. The bands were really noisy here, with lots of QSB and QRN. Some QRO stations piled in right on top of me; I guess my signal was so weak they couldn\'t hear me at all. (I\'m trying to be charitable here...) I found I had to really listen hard for callsigns, and often had to ask for re-sends. With every request for a re-send, the other station complied--and that was great! I think QRP ops are the best! I have looked forward to this contest for months, and guess I will have to do the same for next year\'s FOBB!
| AA2YV | 14 | 15 | 1218 | Didn\'t have my BB Nr. yet, but next year. This contest is just long enough and easy enough to do quickly. I used my HW-9 QRP rig on 40 and 20 today for the BB contest.
| WA9S/BB | 17 | 3 | 1020 | We put a new island on the air, IN0009. This island is located in Leeper Park in the St. Joseph River just north of downtown South Bend, Indiana. I started with an Elecraft KX-1 but switched to my FT-100 because of receiver interference.
| AG4P | 17 | 3 | 1020 | More fun than a barrel of 2N2222\'s
| K9ZTV/BB | 16 | 5 | 1008 |
| WB3AAL/BB | 13 | 12 | 975 | The rain held off for 3 hours for me on the Appalachian Trail. Every time I try to run the FOBB it rains on me in EPA Land.
| W5ODS | 15 | 6 | 945 | This was my first FOBB contest. I operated from home QTH with my solar powered Yaesu FT 890 at 5W. The QSB was a challenge on 20 meters. Thanks to all who organized and operated.
| AB9CA | 12 | 13 | 900 | This one did not go as planned. Had planned on going to Dauphin Island, AL and operating a mile or two down the spit of sand that now connects to what used to be Sand Island. Had the sun shade, radio gear, food and water, and assorted backup stuff in the backpack all ready. The gear weighed in at about 25#, which is not too bad. But it was pouring rain with lots of lightning when I got there. Not the place to be setting up antennas. Returned to the house (after the 110 mile drive to DI and back) and set up the gear in the back yard. Used the same gear as if I had gone to the beach. Due to the heat had started early so had almost enough time to get set up before the start.
| K6LG/BB | 15 | 5 | 900 | Operated from top of Lion\'s Head in Riverside CA
| W5ESE | 14 | 7 | 882 | I set up shop at Founder\'s Park in Dripping Springs. Used my AT Sprint 3 (40, 20), and MFJ Cub 9315K (15).
| KC0PET | 13 | 7 | 780 | http://www.hams4u.com/kc0pet/fobb%2009.htm
| KK5NA | 13 | 6 | 741 | Another fun event. Lots of Bees out there. Only a little QRM from digital stations. Could not leave the house as I was on call from work. Buzzed around the house and yard in between helping the XYL. Rig was Elecraft K3 at 5 watts. Antenna EDZ at 55'. 19 QSOs, 13 Bees, 14 states.
| K6UZB | 12 | 6 | 648 | Great fun again. Operated from Loon Lake in El Dorado National Forrest. Rig was K1 with 90 ft long wire
| NK9G | 10 | 10 | 600 | Due to circumstances I had limit op time but I think more of an effort would have been fruitfull. I heard a lot of calls, and using a G5RV at 40\' was like shooting fish in a barrel. I will give this a lot of attension next year!
| AE2T | 12 | 3 | 540 |
| K8DDB | 10 | 5 | 450 | Rig: Ten Tec Argonaut V at 5 watts, Antenna: Tri-band beam
| W8QRP/BB | 8 | 10 | 432 | Operators KA5S KD8HNF Operated from Thornapple Covered Bridge, Ada, Michigan.
| NK6A/BB | 10 | 3 | 390 | The top of a hill above Mar Vista ( 3 miles East of Venice Beach) with a view of the Pacific was my operating position this year.
| AA4W | 7 | 11 | 378 | The summer storms in Florida didn't cooperate this year. 30 minutes into the 'test a severe thunderstorm approached and washed out the whole afternoon! I think the lightning hit everything taller than 10 feet! And I was hearing a LOT of stations, too. It sounded like there was great participation. There is always net time. Rick AA4W
| VE3XT/BB | 8 | 6 | 336 | Hoped to get out but the weather was miserable so set up in back yard and ran portable with a end fed.
| W1PID | 8 | 5 | 312 | The weather wasn\'t nice in New Hampshire! Thunderstorms and rain and it all started around 1:00pm local.
| W2LJ | 8 | 4 | 288 | K1 & 88 ft zip cord EDZ at 30 feet. Conditions seemed to be not so great during the first half. Second two hours were much better. Lots of stations crowded into a small area - we need to spread out more!
| AF4O | 8 | 4 | 288 | Arrived at my favorite State Park (Big Hill Pond State Park near the Mississippi / Tennessee Border) about an hour late. Got set up and operated for 2hrs 40min until the end of the event.
| W9YA/BB | 7 | 5 | 252 | I guess I needed the sleep because I slept in !! After food and other obligations I was finally able to setup just prior to the last hour of the contest. Operating was fun and I got in 12 qso's in 39 minutes before the storm front made communications non-existent. Total time including travel, set-up, tear-down, and operating 2.5 hours.
| W4BLB/BB | 8 | 2 | 240 | We were at the rock wall on Fort Mtn. in Chatsworth, Ga.
| WOIS/BB | 7 | 4 | 231 |
| W0IS/BB | 7 | 4 | 231 | Our family was on vacation at Wisconsin Dells, so I decided to work in the FOBB contest. My \"hike\" was only from the car to the picnic table at our campsite at Mirror Lake State Park, but I didn\'t get around to setting up until only about an hour was left in the contest.
| AB4PP | 4 | 14 | 216 | I got in there for a while and did the best I could. I had a hard time with some and with the noise and the QRM I still managed to pull some out.
| W6EOD/BB | 8 | 1 | 216 | I was operating from The Blackwater River in NW Florida. It was 100+ and 60% humidity! Everytime I would get hot and sweaty, I would jump into the river and come back for more FOBB.. QSB was tough today but I managed to have a great time and make a few contacts along the way. Great job to all and hope to work you again soon.
| AC7MA | 7 | 3 | 210 |
| VE3DX | 6 | 5 | 198 | Set up on the shore of Lake Superior near Thunder Bay, Ontario with my FT-817 working into 44 ft. doublet up about 20 feet in the trees.
| NG7Z | 8 | 0 | 192 | Unfortunate timing for the BB. It coincides with our church services. Only had time for a few qso’s. Operated the first 15 minutes and the last half hour. Good signals from the UT, AZ and CO area and CA but never heard anything east of WY. Which is strange since there were over 200 bumblebees on the roster. We need some sunspots. Setup here was an Icom 756P3 at 5W and a Force12 C3 yagi at 60 feet. Many thanks to the intrepid BBs for setting up FD style and putting up with the crummy propagation.
| WA7NCL | 7 | 2 | 189 | This year we operated from Minotaur Lake at 5100 ft. Used ATS3 and about 5W to a low dipole in a tree.
| VA3RKM | 6 | 2 | 144 | K2, 5W, verticals. Hope BBs had fun!
| WB9VGO | 5 | 3 | 120 | A poor mobile antenna, but I still had a great time.
| WA1ZCQ/BB | 5 | 3 | 120 | Didn\'t have much time to operate this year, but got just under 1 hour in. That included: unpacking, getting the 32\' wire vertical up, setting up the station, operating, dismantling, and re-packing. Bands were in poor conditions with QSB. QRN from nearby passing storm cells in the area was the loudest thing on the bands. I operated portable from a barrier/sandbar/ island surrounded by saltwater in Maine.
| N4DSP | 4 | 5 | 108 | 40 mtrs only. 20 dead. Not much activity. wb3aal, Ron, had a nice signal down here in North Carolina.
| AE6RF | 4 | 3 | 84 | Couldn\'t get to a spot this year so went with a home-based effort. K3, 2-el SteppIR, N1MM
| WA3ZBJ/BB | 3 | 4 | 63 | Such a fun event but raging storm with lots of heavenly \"special effects\" really impacted my ability to hear other stations today. Storm hovered very close for an hour before moving in and ending all radio operation, but greatly appreciate the patience of my contacts today with repeats and fills as I struggled to hear between static crashes. Not a day to use the headphones! :-)
| WC7S | 2 | 7 | 54 | What a blast. Between the bunnie chewing the antenna tiedown, and the time it takes to handle a horse... I didn\'t get quite as much time as I wanted. But.. learned a lot... and had a lot of fun, in spite of a lack of props. Had Qs with W9JWV and NG7Z and each Q was with a friend,
| W2NED | 3 | 3 | 54 | Only able to operate the last hour, but still had fun. Used a K2 in QRP configuration with internal battery. Antenna was a Buddipole at 25 feet.
| N3WG/BB | 4 | 0 | 48 | I didn\'t have the radio up and running until about 12:20, I left just before 2PM. I spent half of the time trying to catch a CQ to answer and the other half with the radio on dead band auto repeat CQ BB CQ BB N3WG/BB.
| KD4MSR | 3 | 1 | 36 | Great fun camping 5 days/4 nights with the North Georgia QRP Club in the Summer 2009 \"Magic Rocks\" DXpedition to Fort Mountain, Georgia with a mysterious 855 foot long rock wall high atop the mountain.
| WO5X/BB | 3 | 0 | 27 | A fine contest to Bee a ham. Temp. was a pleasant 88F under the trees and a light breeze. SG-2020, LDG Z-11 Pro, 20 meter dipole abt 25 ft. up, lawnmower battery.
| VY2/W1OH | 3 | 0 | 27 | Only on for a short time, as I had just arrived at the house at Point Prim, PEI. Antenna was the usual inverted vee at about 50 ft and about 100 yards from the salt water here. Rig was my K2 at 5W.
| K4UPG/BB | 3 | 0 | 27 | Had a good time on my first FOBB despite poor band condx and wx. Since the sky looked questionable, I hiked about 3/4 mile to Lake Fredrica Park and setup my rig rather than venturing further. After getting setup, at start time the wx became scarey with lightning and rain for 3 of the 4 hours. The QRN was so bad that my AGC was blanking out every other letter at times, so it was very difficult to copy and hard on my ears too. I managed to squeak one qso in before the lightning sirens on a nearby golf course went off at 1315 EDT. That signalled me to get my Buddistick (up 16 feet on a mast) down before it became an expensive lightning rod. I sat it out in a shelter for 2 hrs and got another break for 30 minutes before the 3rd wave of lightning arrived and I called it quits. I bagged two more qso\'s and rolled up the coax and sprinted to safety. I learned a good bit, wish I could have operated more as I need the practice copying, but I\'ve got lots of ideas for making things simpler on future portable ops. Let\'s do it again!
| AC0FQ/BB | 3 | 0 | 27 | This was my first FOBB. The goal was the West Spanish Peak at 13626\' but it would have been a difficult retreat in the face of threatening severe thunderstorms. Instead, we chose a nice high spot about 3/4 mile from the parking area and set up there.
| KG0MZ/BB | 1 | 5 | 18 | Condx were atrocious. KX1 es PAC-12 on 20/40. Storms in the area fed the QRN level. QSB was brutal. On the plus side not one bug bite.
| W2VV/BB | 2 | 1 | 18 | Tom N2YTF and I operated from the summit of Mt. Carmel in Sleeping Giant State Park near New Haven CT. This hill is also a SOTA summit (W1/HH-002) so we were doing double duty as SOTA activators.
| K1CGZ/BB | 2 | 1 | 18 | The second year in a row my BB plans got altered by the rain. Instead of operating from a beach as planned, I took a boat to the island where we have a summer house. Walked to the house and set up the BB station on the porch out of the rain.
| KB9MIC | 1 | 2 | 9 | Made three contacts and was lucky to get those, bands were awful, I decided NOT to go out and operate my BB# 152. Hoping for better conditions next time, thanks for running the sprint!
| N9PUZ | 1 | 1 | 6 | Part time effort on primarily 40 meters and some on 20 meters. In general sigs seemed weak here in the midwest. Still it was an enjoyable time.
| AC0GP/BB | 0 | 0 | 0 | Unfortunately, I made no contacts. I heard two try to come-back. In one case, the signal was too faint for my untrained ears; and in the other case, the operator’s code was too fast.
